Meet Our Golf Pro!

Nestled among beautiful valleys at the Lake of the Ozarks, lies one of America's most spectacular golf courses, Old Kinderhook.  To make a golf course at the Lake of the Ozarks run smoothly, you have to have a great golf pro!  Martin Krulatz is our golf pro here at Old Kinderhook.  In order for our readers to get to know him better, we asked him a few questions.

1.  Why did you decide to become a golf pro?

Golf has been a fabric of my being ever since I was 3 years old and tried hitting golf balls with my father’s left-handed clubs.  I have always enjoyed the environment associated with the golf industry and eagerly pursue making golf a more enjoyable activity for all who seek to increase their skill level of playing the game through practice and lessons. I think anyone who seeks out a career as a golf professional does so not for the glamour, fame or financial compensation, but rather the profession has chosen him or her.  Love what you do and you’ll never work another day in your life!  It’s a great motto to remember as you live life.

2.  How long have you been playing golf?

Since I was 3 years old.

3.  What makes you such a good golf instructor?

I try to make sure to relate to people when speaking.  A person learns best when you speak their language and simplify important aspects.

4.  What is your favorite golf course to play?

Old Kinderhook of course!

5.  Where did you go to school?

Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa is where I attend school and was a two-sport athlete in soccer and golf.

6.  What type of clubs do you play?

I am a Titleist Golf Staff professional!

7.  Who is your favorite PGA professional? (both men and women)

Geoff Ogilvy is my favorite male PGA professional, as his wife and my wife were friends growing up.  For ladies, I enjoy watching Michelle Wie the most probably, as it is such a circus no matter what she’s doing or how she’s playing.

8.  What is your greatest golf achievement?

Attaining status as Class-A member of the PGA is no easy task and the one golf achievement I hold to be my greatest!

9.  Have you had any holes in one?

I have recorded 2 hole-in-ones on a regulation golf course.  Both took place on the same hole, the 11th here at Old Kinderhook.  The 1st was a 9-iron from 160 yds. and the 2nd was  a 5-iron from 210yds. to a back right tucked pin.  The grounds crew guys were working behind the green and got to see it go in as well.

10.  What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen on the golf course?

I once watched a guy prepare to hit a shot from a water hazard where his golf ball was what I would consider hittable.  The guy proceeded to prepare himself to hit the shot by removing shoes and pants, wrapping a towel around himself.  He took a stance and swung to make contact with the ball.  Water whooshes everywhere and I’m trying to see where this guy hit the ball.  Unfortunately the guy never touched the ball and the movement of water rendered his golf ball to a new position that was not hittable.  All that work to hit a shot and result in having to take the same drop he could’ve had he just taken the original ruling. It was pretty funny seeing a guy get wrapped up in a golf towel though!

11.  Do you have other hobbies?

I enjoy spending time with family, traveling and being outdoors hunting & fishing.

12.  Who is your family?

My lovely wife Abi’ and I have been married for 7 years and we have Dorothy “Dot” who is 6, Elleanor “Roo” who is 5, Creed “Buddy” who is 3 and Beatrice “Birdie” who is 1 year old.

13.  What do you like the most about working at Old Kinderhook?

Old Kinderhook itself is an incredibly serene environment and that is a really nice thing about the facility, however the staff at our Lake of the Ozarks golf course is an exceptional group of people who make up an award winning team making working at Old Kinderhook wonderful!

Next time you're in the area, be sure to stop by the golf course and say hi to Martin.  The golf course at Old Kinderhook is renowned for its unsurpassed drama: valleys, waterfalls, hills, trees and water hazards, plus its beautiful lake setting. 1. Great bunch of questions to ask. Really enjoyed reading this. It is very interesting to hear about the background of athletes as it really just shows you that hard work is a staple. We can all be great but few are willing to put in the work to achieve greatness. Really like reading this I hope to see many more.

  2. Instead of other hybrids these best cavity back irons for beginners are much better because they are most forgiving and easy to handle irons.
